She didn't know where she was, having only known her way through the Golmore Jungle her entire sheltered life. She was mortally wounded, but she wanted to leave the baby with someone capable of caring for a child who would die soon as well. The woman stumbled across a well hidden, quaint cottage with a very comforting aetheric energy radiating from it. She felt so comfortable leaving her child in the owners hands; she could almost see into the future that Coda would survive here. She kissed her baby goodbye and left her on the doorstep with the words "Please, be your
own woman." before knocking and limping back into the wilderness.Opened the door stood a middle aged Renard (fox version of a Lupin) named André who had a rather strict, rough, and judgmental outer shell. He hesitated even touching the infant, instead he started sniffing it like a weird looking delicacy till he realized she needs a diaper. He brought her into his home and tried contacting orphanages throughout Eorzea via linkpearl. He gave them details of her size and condition, and they told him that it would be appreciated if she stayed in his care because she would likely die in the next couple of days. He obliged and despite being annoyed by the baby's presence, prayed to Halone that she wouldn't die.
Weeks passed and she miraculously survived, he decided to take her into his care, even calling her his daughter. He named her Coda Volpe meaning Fox Tail. She inherited her mother's unique natural pink hair, wore pigtails and would carry around either a book or a teddy bear till she was about 5 years old.André is part of a nearly extinct race. The renards were nearly wiped out after going to war with Lupin, as they didn't want to be controlled by the Ferae Domitae of Doma. The survivors spread out across the lands and keep in contact from afar whilst living as merchants and/or warriors. André is a merchant, mortician, master crafter, and wine maker. He is wealthy yet very quiet about it. His tools are blessed by Byregot himself. He told Coda she would inherit them once her hands are as calloused as his . His fur is red and white, he's well dressed, he wears artesian spectacles whenever he crafts and carries a small pistol with him wherever he goes. He runs a morgue out of his cellar, which he'll use for villagers and forgotten dead folk. When he found Lilja he burried her in his backyard to confirm her death to Coda.He taught Coda how to aim perfectly, which she picked up naturally from her birth fathers bloodline. He also taught her fishing, cooking, how to make precrafts for his wares, about Eorzean culture, how to make/save gil, how to tell if a hefty artifact is real or fake, and most importantly to fight for herself. He told her that if she is to do anything for Eorzea it should ultimately benefit her, because it's a cruel world to live in and she should be nobody's dog.As a traveling merchant of Yanxia, he often snuck his way around the Empire's rules with the help of blue Kojin. He would sell his gear, jewels, and other things he'd craft all across Eorzea. He'd always bring Coda with him and they'd set up shop, sometimes staying in the city state for days. When she was 10 years old, he wasn't always the best role model/father figure for her; as he would leave Coda to sell his wares while he'd go chasing babes in Ul'dah. When he was looking for a bodyguard for her, he met a 386 year old Veena samurai named Vetements. Vetements is a very charming, feminine man who adored Coda at first sight, he claimed he would be able to protect them better than any other bodyguard around due to his years. André, not knowing much about Viera, started arguing with him, concerning Coda's gender and thought Vetements was lying about his outrageous age. Despite André's attitude and deciding to hire a lesser bodyguard, he kept ye on Coda whilst they were in Ul'dah; and they were right to do so. As Coda was being attacked by the hiree when he thought no one was watching, Vetements saved the girls life. When André was done with his erotic adventures he apologized profusely and offered to pay Vetements double what he originally asked for. Vetements became André's gay lover and a mother figure to Coda, he also serves as her retainer now.A significant time in Coda's life is when they went to sell in Ishgard for a month. She was merely 6 years old and had a habit of wandering off from her father, so he'd get the houses he had relationships with to babysit her. She made friends with young Haurchefant and they would play together around camp dragonhead. One day he had brought her to Falcon's nest and of course, she wandered off without him knowing. She ran halfway through Coertheas Western Highlands before nearly being a Polar Bear's lunch. Ompagne Deepblack and his pupils saved her life, and walked her back to safety. She kept silently staring at the three of them in awe the whole way. Sidugru was annoyed with her, Fray seemed rather indifferent, while Ompagne was more friendly. Before she was reunited with her father she asked if someday she could fight with a big sword like that. She got no answer but a nagging rampage from her father before being sent home. That moment of heroism displayed before her kept replaying in her young mind ,and she developed a want to protect those she cares about. When she turned 21, she decided to leave the fox's burrow. Before she left to start her own life in Gridania, her father gave her his artisan spectacles and his pistol. He stoically told her to be safe and to come back in 20 years to get the wine he's been ageing for her.
